Functionally redundant isoforms MEK1 & MEK2

The authors found that, by varying the genomic copy number of these critical enzymes, these isoforms were sufficient to compensate for the loss of the other provided that a threshold amount of either MEK1 or MEK2 was produced in the placenta. A case where functional redundancy is maintained during evolution.
